WWDC & the iPhone - mobile web has the speeds you needs

This morning Steve Jobs showed off the difference between the speed of 3G and EDGE for loading a web page designed for the desktop. I’ve taken a screenshot from TechCrunch’s Qik video to show the 59s for EDGE and 21s for 3G loading time.

From Steve Jobs\' WWDC Keynote

> 2x times faster from EDGE to 3G! w00t!

But it’s a hot day in NYC and even 21 seconds if you are standing outside is not bearable.

What if it only took 10 seconds on EDGE? Well that speed is already a reality if you have an iPhone optimized mobile site like TIME does:

10 seconds!

Even counting the time it took me to type in the URL you’re still below 21 seconds.

Check it out for yourself - I hope that tides you all over until July 11th when you can see how fast TIME.com loads with 3g.

Good post. Also, let’s not forget that only a portion of the 6 million people who’ve already bought the iPhone will be upgrading to 3g. The rest will be long be thankful for highly optimized sites like Time.
